Re: Jon Williams gets a 72 SAAB 99E
Looks nice! The 4 doors have a whole different feel and use. I've looked at a few c900 manual 4 door n/a's and like how they drive - a nice clean 99 4dr must be even better!
6 Saab's + 1 Moto Guzzi = needs more time & money!

Re: Jon Williams gets a 72 SAAB 99E
Looked over the car last night and it is very clean. The engine is the triumph motor with a 4 speed. The car has an interesting rubber bumper in that it does not mount the way the later ones do but mounts very similar to the chrome bumpers. bumper supporting structure in the engine bay however is similar to the later cars...clearly a transition design. We didn't get the car on the lift but I suspect the underside is pretty solid too. Could easily yank the triumph motor (which was Djet) and drop a B motor in and have a runner fairly quickly...especially if you ran a carb.

Awesome. The 4-door is my favorite 99 body style.

It looks like it could make a nice driver.
Since I got my 89T sedan, the 4 door cars have really grown on me.
Save a nice set of those early stainless bumpers for it. Throw on a vintage basket style roof rack, and some other period correct accessories and your all set.

fitting the chrome bumpers could be done but then you really need to switch to the early turn signal lights. I agree though I do really like the 4 doors.

While I agree the early lenses look best for full effect, the bare bones swedish domestic cars (99 X7) retained the chrome bumpers for a couple more years with the new marker lights and they actually don't look too bad:

Looks like they also eliminated the overriders. Gives it a much cleaner look.

Still have bolt holes to fill and grind.
Looks like there might be a hint of holes on that one now that I look closer.

Got it up on the lift Saturday and then pulled the motor, removed the interior Sunday.

Re: Jon Williams gets a 72 SAAB 99E
Doug, no real plan, yet. I am still accessing the condition. The passenger side floor has rust that needs to be cut out and replaced. I may replace the axles and suspension with 900 stuff. The interior from one of the 5-doors may find its way into this car.
I have a few options for engine replacement.
What would you do?

B motor, flat top forged pistons, MSS cam, headers, dual side draft weber carbs, 5 speed, repair rust and seal properly. Leave paint as is to preserve the patina
