Cool shop, pretty extensive inventory of parts for rally prepping escorts!

I know a guy who has a setup almost like this. His name is Dave and he is into old SAABs too. He has a 66 Sonett in great shape.

Where is he located?

CT. Down towards Woodstock way. It''s a smaller shop. last time I was down he had 4 sonetts up on the shelf in different levels of fixing up.

He has one of those funny looking Giata's I think there called. It is a tube framed, fiberglass shelled, SAAB 2 stroke powered thing. Don't think it's been out on the track for awhile.

pretty nice, there is a vacant ex factory in Glen Lyon, PA 22,000 Sq feet. absolutely huge... the place has a lunch room, locker room, loading dock, garage door, all concrete floors, all sorts of crazy factory related stuff. they only want $85,000, Est monthly payments were $425. but I bet they'd take like 20K in cash too :lol: we have been toying with the idea of buying the place and building performance parts there, but it would make a hell of a rally staging facility too :lol: 22,000 sq feet though... that is too much room!

Well, that would be Dave Hosmer then. Little history now...

The stroker engined Ginetta is a G4 that was built by Walter Kern. It is called the Quantum 5.

Here is a picture of Dave's Quantum 5 along with GM's Quantum III and my Dad's Formula S. Also, that's Dave in the flannel and cap in the background.

Walter also built my Dad's Quantum One, the Quantum Two (owned by Gary Stottler) and the three Quantum III's (Bud Clark, GM Heritage Collection, some other guy).
He was a principal investor in Quantum Motorcars which built the Formula S I race. That's where the missing number 4 went in the above series.

Dave Hosmer recently authored an article about the Quantum One and Two that appeared in Nines (SCNA) and the Vintage Views (VSCNA). If you are into goofy old SAAB specials, it is an interesting read. We've since found out even more about the cars' history, including that my Dad's car, the Quantum One, was tested/driven by John Fitch at Lime Rock in '59 or '60.

Walter Kern is the man the Walter Kern award memorializes... Given at each SOC and won in 2003 by James Fox... Who at the time of the awarding, was in the parking lot playing with cars. I went out and got him... He was surprised and honored. He lives near Lime Rock.

Oh! The chain of links I can connect with all the useless trivia I've collected! I'll bore you to tears.

That was the Dave I was thinking of but I couldn't remember his last name. He's a real nice guy! He also has a turbocharged Sonett III and a '79 or '80 900T with a 16V that I think is pretty slick. The stock boost gauge on it is interesting, it is graduated and has boost pressure listed. I've never been to his place but I hear he has lots of neat toys!

I'm pretty sure every saab owner knows every other saab owner by at most 2 degrees of seperation... well we classic saab lovers at least, not sure about those 9000 guys
