Did you do it yourself in the studio or take it somewhere?

that's why we won't have a black car on the cover....looks like a black blob no matter what.

I also can't photograph my black Schnauzer without him looking like an amorphous blob---really hard to pick up the details.

Perhaps if you photographed it at a marble quarry. we have one near us in Vermont where I want to shoot some photos of my KTM (orange) and my 900 (that cool orange brown metallic).

Well actually the sockets are for pin mount jackstands that are commonly used in rally. The current car has these too but they are hidden underneath and get bent all the time from rocks (even though they are 1/8" wall cromoly) so we decided to move them up to a safer place. Usually a bilstein "monkey on a poll" jack is used because its a lot quicker than a screw based jack. But that merc one could work well too, what do they come on?

Vanagons had a bilstein jack of this design which was really fairly quick, and from the looks of it a lot beefier i think i have an extra one around.

The Mercedes jacks are the Bilstein jacks, they basically all use that type of jack, some have different jacking rates (less or more turns to lift the car) but they are all pretty much similar. Also, the Merc. jack hole plugs keep crap out of the jack holes however they also promote rust so most of em are just missing, but I'd suspect in rally use a set of the rubber merc. plugs might be handy to keep rocks and crap out of those holes (this was their intent). It's pretty common that those holes get plugged up pretty good by road debris

The ones people use for rally arent threaded, theres 2 collars that cam their way up the pole, when it goes up it look like a monkey climbing a tree. They lower pretty fast too. They came on VW buses.

I wonder if an electric impact would lift that merc jack, that might be ideal then.

well the merc. jacks are geared so that an old lady could jack up a W126 fairly easily... Here we actually have a saab jack with a 19MM nut welded onto the end (where the turn stick normally goes). pop an impact wrench on that and the car will pretty much fly right up. Handy if you want to do things like fast wheel changes... the same could probably be done with a Mercedes jack, just replace where the stick attaches with a 19MM nut that's welded on.

oh, also the Mercedes jacks like to fall over unless you use a wheel chock, so look out for that.
