Autocross build

I just purchased a 1978 99 turbo S. This car has won the G-stock regional championship four times. But in 2008 it wouldn't start and was pushed into the corner to wait for a new lease on life. This is where I came in I had been looking at replacing my beloved road car with a dual purpose autocross/dd car (insert rear engined German car) when a good friend of mine said "hey I have a Saab 99 turbo that needs a new home". I have had my hands in a 900t a couple of times rebuilding its turbo once and replacing it another time, owner had no concept of letting things spool down or cool off before shutdown. I've loved the quirky layout of the Saab interior and the power the turbo makes is nothing short of astonishing. I had to have it. This is where I'm supposed to post a hundred photos of a dusty Saab looking forlorn but unfortunately it isn't going to arrive here untill after the first of October due to a hillclimb he was building three cars for. When it does emerge from exile I will post photos and I'll do my best to update as I revive this champion to it's former glory.

You will find that both classes are extremely competitive. If it was competitive in G-Stock Regionally, and you would be happy with that, keep it there. It's easy to keep it stock. Modifying the car is a slippery slope and you can find yourself out-gunned in DSP in pretty short order. I raced FrankenSAAB in DSP for 15 years before transitioning to SMF. Now I'm racing an SPG in ESP, so much more room for development.
Welcome Aboard!

I have a source for Hoosiers on the cheap but they only come in 225/45/15 and I'm not sure I could make them fit the car. Or more exactly the car fit them.

I am going to run tires that size on my 900, but I have yet to drive the car with them on. I'm sure it will become apparent if there is gonna be a problem.

The real trick is fitting them on stock Aztecs. Yay stock class.

Not sure about DOT tires, but some race tires are cantilevered over the rim, so you get a wide tread patch on a narrow rim.

Stock class requires dot tires

225's are a bit big for the 5.5" wheels. I run them on 7" and 8" wheels.
I have had good luck running 205's on the stock rims.
You may want to find a second set of rims for your "R" tires. Incas have a reputation for being a soft wheel and I've seen them get bent by the monkeys at the tire shops...

Buying spree don't tell my spouse

I purchased a recirc valve and a set of 15x7 aftermarket 900 wheels.

That puts you in DSP. But, I've found if you don't tell the competition, they don't know enough about SAABs to call you on it.

Yes but they might suspect when I put a giant front mount on the car.

I have decided to go ahead with a Stock build because I would get obliterated in DSP.

How much power can I pull with just the water inj and boost?

I have a water injection question.

Has anyone experimented with injecting cold water/meth mix? We are talking close to or below 32f with 35-40% meth.

I don't know if many people have messed with chilling the reservoir, would take up more space & add weight unless you mean just tossing some ice in the tank before your run?

Usually a methanol mix is common, check out some of the info on the brand name companies that make new water/meth injection kits, like Snow Performance, or Aquamist or a few others.

My car has the saab water injection system on it already.

I will be using the car for autocross so I'll be able to add chilled anti detonant after each run. The question is will there be any benefit or should I just not worry about it?
