A little progress...

Tacked in the mounting plates for master cylinders and pedal assemblies. Also mocked up mounting for shifter and handbrake. I'm questioning how the brake masters are going to fit with the engine in so I'll do a test fit before I really weld them in there, it might be close with the webers and I have no idea where the alternator is going to go. I also have to fill in some of the old mounting holes, repaint etc. Does anybody have any pics of a weber engine in a 99 for reference?

I think you'll end up with some interference with those master cylinders. Can you mount them up where the master cylinder on a later 99 would be mounted?

Quinn's dad has a nice 99 with Webbas. Any pictures Quinn?

Well anything is possible , but I'm trying to keep it simple with the pedal assembly straight through to the outboard MCs. They have stubby master cylinders if it is a length thing or I could possible move them down a little, but they are in the position with the least amount of fab work.


I found this image of webers on an H engine and it looks like a 99. The manifold looks slightly different.. but in this case the MCs would fit. Alternator...not so much.

What about putting the alternator where the ac compressor would go? Should be within your skillset to fab the proper brackets.

Yeah, with the webers I know you can't run the alternator in the stock position anyway. Luke has some drawings of how the factory cars did it so I was going to check those out. I've seen them in the A/C position with a really big belt as well.

Not conclusive, but I think they will fit...depending on reservoir position.

When I got my rally car it had the alternator mounted down where it would be mounted on a H or 16V C900. All it took was an aluminum bracket in a wobbly "H" shape (hehehe) mounted to the driver's side motor mount bracket. I can't remember if it only works with a motor mount bracket from a power steering car or not though...
BUT... mounting the alternator there allows you to run two belts on it.

he's got a smaller manifold i believe and it's got some weird name

he's pretty happy with the setup, but i'm not too sure about carbs myself, and i remain unconvinced.

the one thing i like is how it cleans up the engine bay, but a modern fuel injection would do the same thing. CIS is like a huge borg bees nest.

Height is actually OK, but one is too far inboard by about 2.5 inches or it would have to be moved back 2 inches.....damn water pump....

I don't think I could move it over that far unless I made a new pedal with a dog leg... and Or I'd have to move it back quite a bit (about 2").

Yeah.... it might have fit on an h-block..but then you have the waterpump there anyway so maybe not.... I was worried about interfering with the carbs but wasn't thinking about the block not fitting.

As long as it doesn't f-up the pedal position too much I think I'm going to mod the firewall in about 2.5 inches around the MC mounts. That should give me about 4.5" of clearance. Compact M/Cs are ~3 3/8 long plus a banjo fitting on the end + some wiggle room for engine movement.

So if the MC is 1/8"NPT is there a direct banjo bolt that works with it or would I have to fit some sort of adapter?

This was just a test fit anyway. Just enough bolts to mount up the old trans. Still lots to do...

Like make a new passenger side mount arm
