I think it was from a 4 speed? Maybe not the most wanted variety, but perhaps somebody out there can put it to good use.

If I had a spare engine I'd stand it right there. :) But nope, it sits lonely on the shelf. No takers by Saturday, it's getting recycled.

Can you take a shot from the top? Plan view. Looking for the diagonal ribs.

I'll get a top shot. The ribs are perpendicular not diagonal, that much I know...

Possibly some conflicting information above? Or maybe some 870423 boxes had diagonal ribs and some had straight ribs?
Luke told me something about the surface appearance and corrosion of the chillcast boxes. Maybe he can tell by looking at the material?
There are three 4-speed Chillcast boxes – the most common being 870423 and 871239, the first number is the strongest of the two and should be used for high HP and torque. But, there are many sub-models and variations and not every Chillcast box is the same.
The stronger of the two boxes shows three diagonal ridges on the corner of the oil pan. This is what you look for showing you it is the stronger variant.

870423 refers to the later 4 speed chillcast box used in the 77-79 turbos. whether there are variations in the 870423 number i cannot say
