WTB Lightend flywheel for c900

Postby happyandy » Sun Apr 13, 2008 10:12 pm

I am looking for a lightend flywheel for my '88 c900 turbo project, it doesn't need to be fancy or ultralight, just lighter than the stock diesel truck-like unit. I'm on a tight budget too  . thank you.

Well you could find a local machine shop and see how much to have it lightened and balanced. I can have them done locally for about $90.

If it was for a sonet 2 or 96 I would be almost telling the truth! I wonder if I tell them that its for a MOPAR if they will do it for free.

its a big lump of round iron. they only take about 5 lbs off of it and its not a very complicated procedure....balancing should be easy too. Have you called around and gotten actual prices?

So far I have only tried a few auto specific machine shops, but there is an industrial machine shop that I do some buisness with that I will talk to. One of my clients has a full machine shop that they have let me use in the past, but I haven't been there in over a year, I think it would be in poor form to drop in and say "long time- no see, can I use your machinist for a personal project?"
I thought that it would be easier to see if any one on this forum had a spare that they could part with.

I have/had a spare but it has lots of stress cracks all over it and is really gouged from running a 4 puck ceramic(?) clutch disc. Its for an earlier (smaller clutch) car. You don't want it. :D

My local machine shop won't do them---ties up their lathe too long. I got mine from MSS.

Dave Kennedy (formerly Group9) did mine, took about 7.5 pounds off the stock flywheel, and balanced, and re-did the dowel pins to take the 9" 9000 clutch for something like $180? He trolls around on Saabnet most of the time, you can find his e-mail address or his phone number somewhere.

Best,
Drew
