I was in the neighborhood last weekend so I droped in on Sandy to check out the old rally rig. It was packed in pretty good so it was tough to get good pics. I'm gonna get back over there when its warmer. The car is registered and street legal, he said we can take for a spin.

Guess what's in the box? I didn't look inside because it was buried but there's supposed to be a spare SR crashbox in there......disassembled. Tried to talk him out of it again but he's planning on running the car in the near future. Sounds like times would have to be pretty tough before he sold any of his 99 rally treasures.

Turns out this is his other car, still has it. It was in another garage and the snow was deep so it'll have to wait till the next visit for a full inspection.

Also, I forgot to mention that we were near a computer so I showed him the pics of the new SAABRALLY.COM build. Like many of us, he was in awe! Personally, I find Luke and the gang's persistance a little annoying. :D

Thats pretty cool! He really should get that thing out on the stages again, Looks like a new cage and it would be ready to rock.
There should be a clause that if you own a SAAB dogbox but fail to enter an event for a number of years then you have to automatically reliquish your rights to said box and turn it over to an active saab rally driver. Theres way too many of them just sitting around collecting dust.. two right there with Sandy, one in Rich Kushners car in Pa, one in George Plseks old car in Canada, one in Sean Mulladys car "karen-anne" one in Fox's new car, and who knows how many out with the Scanwest boys... At least Groo saw the light and realized that they weren't intended to sit on the shelf, they are intended to be driven!

I like that battery mount..with the new good/small battery's out there, it wouldn't take any really clearancing to put a gel battery on its side there.

(I'll probably do that in this round of engine out/reinforcement work)

I also like that bar that crosses over the engine. I'll need to figure out how to integrate that into the current bars that come forward from the cage.

That's what one of his former employees told me about 10 years ago. He still hasn't run the car though

I know Sandy personally and was sitting in the car just last summer. Sorry guys,,, if anyone buys the car its gonna be me and Sandy's nephew. We have been hinting to Sandy for the last few years to field a racing effort with his old 99 and his nephew driving.

Just an update, the car is complete but is rather rough, every piece of sheet metal is beat up on the car and it should be re-shelled. The aluminum hood was damaged in a roll over and was turned into wall art. Ill have to find the photos, I took an S-load of pics when I stayed at his house in Kennebunk. Ill post the pics when I find em and scan em.

The story I heard behind the car in this thread (maybe its in the thread, I haven't read it in a while) is that this car was built from parts that Ola brought over. John Buffum, who owned the EMS that is now in the museum in Trollhattan, had a shop right next door to Sandy Liverseige and spare parts from Buffum's shop used to make their way from to Sandy's shop. Apparently Sandy has some aluminum body parts (hood at least) but the hood was damaged in a crash.

Sorry for my english..

The interresting thing about the alu parts.

Here In sweden they where illegal in Rally.
And you could use alu i rallycross (european) for a few year.
I think they change the rules -82. To Grp A.

But I heard about. Door skins In alu. And trunk hood whit alu skin.

The story about the trunk in rally. They had a spare one I the service car and changed It.

One of the drivers had alu skins on the doors and where disqualified.

I have seen that one of the hinges on the trunk hood are alu. (left).

The 16V car in the movie on saabhistory site. Have a really soft hood.
But that was a Grp 4 car. Before they changed the rules. And saab rallied the turbo car.
