Does anyone know how many cars he actually built? There is a photo of a 99 crash in progress of in the back of the John Buffum biogrgaphy "In like a lamb, out like a lion".

I had a similar discussion with Sean Tennis and Rob years ago before they built the NG900. They cut the axles and welded because they had a readily available rear axle supply, it was easy to do (his words, not mine) and above all cheap. He also said that if I didn't want to go to the trouble of cutt...

FWIW I had a similar problem in my 1984 900S; dead tach, low power, etc. Jerry Sweet advised me to pull the ignition relay, shine the spades up and put it back in; if that didn't work then swap in a good used relay. I cleaned up the spades and it solved the problem.

I saw the car in action once (my first ever pro rally) at the sunriser 400 in Ohio, 1989. I managed to peek into the service barge and the car for a quick minute before they had to get to the start and do a lap around the park in town. I think they DNF'ed but it was a long time ago; the only thing t...

Try Andrews Inc. of Princeton. They are an independent SAAB garage located just north of the twin cities so they may have new and good used wheels/tires in stock for your 900.

I have been a loyal Nokia/Nokian buyer for the last 10-15 years. I currently have a set of Q's which have amazing traction on everything, including glare ice. On packed snow they offer the same level of grip as a a good rally tire on gravel; on ice they give up a little lateral grip but it makes the...

No worries, part of me died on that trip home! Ah Guiness...Heavy, aromatic, with the color of drain oil. Good stuff in moderation and the nice thing is most of my friends won't touch it so any begging for a brewski usually stops when I mention all I have is Guiness in the fridge. Miller Lite...Clea...

I hope you didn't stop at a control and hand the wrong thing out the window! "Here hold this...my card is here somewhere..." The first time I crewed for Jerry Sweet (POR 1991, dead last but finished) we "collected" the remaining beer from the post award party and spent an hour or...

That's got to be tough to explain to the press: "What happened to your team? Engine failure? Transmission blow-up? Rolled the car five times to avoid a spectator?" "Uh, no...the co-driver puked on the route book and we couldn't read the directions." At my first POR I noticed seve...

They rolled it at Ojibwe in 1996(?). I was spectating with my brother and they didn't come through on the stage. After sweep went through we drove back down and found them standing on the side of the road; the car was upside down 10-15 feet down the side of the hill. They were taking a fast right ha...

Best of luck if you do try to restore it. It was Jerry's second car, the first was bent into a "U" after POR one year (that's why you tie your cage into the suspension points, boys and girls, and you leave the autopower bolt-in kits for cone squashers or street racers). Prior to the buildu...

Yeah, that was crazy stuff; it all blends together in a bunch of random snapshots now but it was all fun. Swapping a beer for a Terratrip probe at STPR...the horrible hail storm in Ohio where we put planks down to drive up the car up steps to hide in a stadium...trying to start the car at Sno-Drift ...

Hello all!

Just wanted to introduce myself and join the fray. I used to be the crew chief for Jerry Sweet when he was running his 99 rally cars in the SCCA Pro Rally series; first in U2 and then Group 2 when they changed the classes. We came close to winning the G2 championship in 1995, losing by 5 points to S...
